The School In-service Teacher Training (SITT) project is an expansion of the successful model implemented at Kisimani Primary School. Building on this foundation, the project seeks to enhance teacher training in 30 primary schools across Singida Rural, Kaliua, and Bariadi districts in Tanzania. The project will run from 2026 to 2028, focusing on decentralizing teacher training to improve participatory teaching practices, eliminate harmful disciplinary methods, and create better learning environments.
Key Goals:
Establish and support 30 SITT Schools (10 in each district).
Improve teaching practices through on-site mentoring and teacher training.
Scale the cascading mentorship model, where trained schools mentor neighboring schools, ensuring sustainable peer-to-peer knowledge transfer and support.
Strengthen the capacity of District Education Officials and Quality Assurance officers to foster participatory teaching methodologies and positive behavior management strategies.
Expected Impact:
300 teachers trained in 2026, with plans to scale up to 1,800 teachers by 2028.
Directly benefit 45,000 students across 30 schools by 2028.
Our Approach:
The SITT project builds on the successful Kisimani School Teacher Training model, which has already demonstrated the effectiveness of participatory teaching and mentoring. The model will be expanded to new schools with the following approach:
Mentor Schools receive intensive training and support.
Satellite Schools are trained by the Mentor Schools, creating a second tier of impact.
Neighboring Schools are supported by Satellite Schools, extending the reach of the model to even more teachers and students.
This cascading mentorship system ensures long-term sustainability and empowers local schools to continue the training and mentoring process.
Current Funding Status:
EPI is seeking funding to expand the SITT project and replicate the successful model from Kisimani Primary School to reach more teachers and schools. We are actively looking for donors and partners who are committed to improving the quality of education in rural Tanzania and scaling impactful teacher training initiatives.
